I’ve done a number of the Free Walking Tours available in many cities, and have found them to be a nice alternative to their more commercialized counterparts. The guides have always been enthusiastic, and the tour offered by the nonprofit 365 Association was no different.
We met and departed on time from the Municipal Building, lead by our guide, Nenko, a Plovdiv native who spent much of his youth in the U.S.,but has returned to his home and is a molecular biology student. His knowledge of the history, culture, and architecture of Plovdiv was impressive, but presented in a way that was both entertaining and inclusive, inviting group questions and participation. It was an excellent introduction to Plovdiv, and Nenko offered excellent recommendations for further investigation if you’re in town for more than the day. Please keep in mind that the guides are not salaried employees, and that they rely on your tips to support themselves!
