The 10 Best Things to Do in Plovdiv If You Only Have One Day

Plovdiv is a vibrant, changing and opening to the world city by the day. Many people are lucky enough to have chosen to take the day trip to Plovdiv (even though we consider a trip to Plovdiv to be sufficient if it’s for at least two or three days), but nonetheless – we have prepared the 10 things to do and see in Bulgaria’s second-largest city for all our day-trip-friends! 1. Take a walk around the City garden! The City garden (Tsar Simeon’s garden) is one of the biggest parks in the center of the city. If you want to  feel the local vibe – that’s one of the best places. It’s time for Christmas in Kapana! Christmas in Kapana district is something you don’t want to miss! It’s that time of the year again. When the weather’s cold, but the coats are warm, the streets are empty but the restaurants are full and the windows festive. The Christmas trees are up, snow is soon to cover the pavement, red wine is most desired and ugly sweaters are up on sale. The flags are gone, instead green festoons are hanging from the colorful houses. Sparkly, shiny and fancy, the decorations are up on doors, glasses and sidewalks.  The Christmas bazaar soon will make Kapana a very special (and yummy!) place in the city! Perperikon – the City of Stone

Perperikon – Location and description: The half-ruined Thracian city of Perperikon (official website of the location) is one of the most fascinating destinations in Bulgaria. Although discovered 20 years ago, the excavations are continuing and every successive step of the digs feeds Bulgarian historians’ imagination.  Situated in Eastern Rhodopes , Perperikon is hewn into the rocks at 470 meters altitude. The distance from Sofia is about 250 km (3 hours drive) and from Plovdiv about 100 km (less than 2 hours drive). The road is generally in good condition. The closest bigger city is Kardzhali (just over 20 km, about 30 min drive). Perperikon is an archaeological complex which covers an area of ​​about 12 square km. Being one of the oldest megalithic sites in Bulgaria, Perperikon embodies history that spans through several epochs.
