It is finally that wonderful time of the year! If you are visiting us right now, you have probably noticed that the city has already transformed. The lights are twinkling, the air is crisp, and the festive mood has officially taken over our ancient streets.
Plovdiv might not be the first place you think of for a winter getaway, but we do things differently here. Our version of Christmas in Plovdiv is all about cozy vibes, slow walks, and enjoying the moment with friends. The tree is already lit, but the real party is just getting started.
The biggest attraction this year is located right in the middle of everything at the Central Square. It is called “Christmas Town,” and it will stay open until January 4, 2026. This isn’t just a collection of stalls; it is a true winter fairytale designed for everyone to enjoy.
You will find beautiful wooden houses serving traditional winter treats and grilling tasty meats. The scent of cinnamon and mulled wine fills the air, warming you up instantly despite the December chill. It is the perfect spot to stop for a break after exploring the Roman Forum nearby.

The organizers of the festivities have promised the most inspiring market in Bulgaria this year. There are unique attractions you won’t see elsewhere, like a special “Santa’s Elevator” and a magical Carousel.
If you are traveling with children, make sure to visit Santa’s Post Office. Little ones can write their letters to the good old man there. They might even receive their gifts personally from him!
Music is a huge part of the experience here. The stage at the square will host some fantastic free performances in the coming weeks.
On December 13 at 6:30 PM, you can catch live the legendary Bulgarian rock band Signal. Later in the month, on December 20, the stage belongs to the artist Robi. Finally, keep the party going on December 27 with performances by Filip Donkov and Aleksandar Kolev.
If you prefer handmade treasures over mass-produced goods, you must visit the Kapana Creative District. The beloved bazaar returns soon, running from December 17 to December 28.
This year is extra special as it marks the 10th anniversary of the festival. Consequently, the festivities are expanding far beyond the usual bridge over Gladstone Street. You will find holiday magic spreading into the small cobbled streets, the City Garden, and even the Dondukova Garden.
Over 240 artists and craftsmen will display their work, making it the best spot for unique gift shopping. The atmosphere is distinctively bohemian, filled with creative energy and the aroma of homemade sweets.
Be sure to look for the special photo corner featuring a restored retro sleigh. It is the perfect place to capture a memory while enjoying the live music. If you are here between December 23 and 25, keep an eye out for Santa and his elves!

For the first time ever, we have a completely new location for holiday fun. The “Kolezha” Christmas Bazaar takes place at the Hristo Botev Stadium.
The doors open from December 14 to December 24. This innovative event aims to bring football fans and families together in a totally different festive atmosphere.
You can ride an impressive Ferris wheel that towers over the stadium. It offers a view of Plovdiv you have likely never seen before. Local farmers will also be there offering fresh meat delicacies and seasonal foods.
The bazaar also supports a noble cause. It partners with the “Night of Angels” charity organization to help those in need during the holidays. It is a great way to have fun while doing some good.
If you crave history, visit the “Street of Crafts” on Stramna Street in the Old Town. From December 13 to December 21, the masters open their workshops to visitors to showcase their skill and creativity. This is a much quieter, more intimate experience than the big markets. You can even join a workshop to make your own decorations or gifts.
If you want to move your body after all those holiday treats, head to the Central Square. The Ice Park returns this year, and it is bigger and better than ever before!
The facility covers a massive area, with 3,000 square meters of pure ice. It is not just a simple rink; it features winding ice alleys through Tsar Simeon garden that make you feel like you are skating through a frozen park.

Don’t worry if you aren’t a pro skater yet. The park is designed for both absolute beginners and advanced enthusiasts. There are also new visual surprises and light shows this season, turning your skating session into a magical experience.
Many tourists worry that the city shuts down completely during the holidays. While many shops may close, the music in Plovdiv never stops.
On December 24, you can start your celebrations at 11:00 AM. The Angel Bukoreshtliev Choir will perform a heartwarming concert at their dedicated hall.
On Christmas Day, December 25, the party moves to the Stefan Stambolov Square. The Big Band Plovdiv takes the stage at noon to lift everyone’s spirits. Later that evening, you can enjoy performances by Victoria Dimova at 5:00 PM and the Intro Quartet at 6:00 PM.
The fun continues on December 26. At noon, young talents will take over the stage, followed by the rock sounds of Polinerock’s project band at 5:00 PM.
Finally, on December 27 and 28, the square will remain lively. You can watch traditional dances by the “Elika” formation or enjoy pop concerts by Stanley and K.LINA & The Ladies.

Plovdiv is truly alive this winter, blending its ancient history with modern festive joy. From the artisan crafts in Kapana to the grand concerts at the square, there is something for everyone.
We hope you enjoy the warm atmosphere of our city. And remember, exploring is always better with company.
Our Free Plovdiv Tour runs every single day, rain or shine, including all holidays. Join us at 11:00 AM in front of the Plovdiv City Hall to walk off the Christmas cookies and explore the city’s history!
